Prato della Fiera. Treviso, the Sile River and the landscape of a large public space

international workshop

13-19 June 2016

Treviso – Prato della Fiera

Objectives and content

The Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche, as part of its experimental activities concerning the landscape and the care for places developed by its Scientific Committee, is organising an international design workshop in conjunction with the Municipality of Treviso on the subject of the Prato della Fiera in Treviso.

The workshop is intended to be an opportunity for reflection and for heightening awareness of the theme of a large public space which is firmly enrooted in the history of the city, where the landscape dimension could provide a possible interpretation and a germinal moment for future project prospects.

The workshop will take the form of a project exploration, examining the history, current set up and uses and how an emblematic site such as this can be safeguarded, giving the city the opportunity to consider the role landscape has in its myriad spaces for collective life.

The importance of this site and the cultural and economic role it plays in the lives of the local people mean this initiative should has as wide a reach as possible and, in order to accomplish this, the Foundation will be holding a preliminary public meeting on 25 May 2016 at its headquarters for all those interested.

Activities

The workshop will occupy seven full days from Monday 13th to Sunday 19st June 2016. It will be based at the headquarters of the Foundation and will include seminar type activities, lectures, sites visits, discussions and work presentations.

All participants will be issued with an attendance certificate.

Admission requirements and procedures

The workshop is designed to involve fifteen holders of master’s degree or similar qualifications who are interested in interdisciplinary group work. Ideally they should have some experience in the field of landscape research and project design, at university or in a post-university professional context. All participants should have a good command of spoken and written Italian, the main language of the workshop.

Participants will be selected on the basis of the curriculum and application submitted.

The regulations can be found on the Foundation’s website or obtained from the Foundation’s offices at via Cornarotta 7, Treviso (open from Monday to Friday, 9am–1pm and 2–6pm).

Applications should give full personal particulars, including telephone number(s) and e-mail and postal addresses, and should be accompanied by a curriculum vitae and a short letter explaining the reasons for the applicant’s interest. This material should be sent by e-mail to fbsr@fbsr.it with the reference heading “workshop 2016”; alternatively it may be sent or delivered by some other means. Applications must reach the Foundation’s offices no later than 12 am on Friday 13th May 2016.

The Foundation reserves the right, at its discretion, to increase the number of places available.

Selection of participants

The results of the selection process, which will be carried out by the Foundation, will be published on the website www.fbsr.it by 20 May 2016 and successful applicants will be notified later by email.

No enrolment fee is payable for participation in the workshop.

The Foundation will make suitable premises and services available for the workshop, including the library and the map library and all necessary equipment; it will also be responsible for the ordering and free provision of all teaching and work materials, transfers for site visits and lunch on each day of the workshop.
